ISF World School Championship 2020
From January 3rd - 6th, 425 U16 Rwandan students gathered at the "Groupe Scolaire Official de Butare" (GSOB) school to find the most talented athletes in football, basketball, volleyball and handball.
This was the second search for talented young athletes, with the first taking place on December 19th, 2018. Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Technology in Schools, Furere Rudasingwa Camille was a representative of the project in Huye, sharing some of the thoughts behind the event. "We are very grateful for this initiative in this school year because it has been specifically done to allow children with gifts in sport to be sent to selected schools in order to be closely monitored by the coaches and specialists."
One of the teachers who came to help with the selection of the best participants was Mr Mashami Vincent, who now coaches football at the national level had this to add: "I have been able to see that in the two categories involved, we have a lot of gifted athletes that can make our country very important in football. The only thing is that there is a shortage of trainers. They have a lot of competitions and are given a good platform, the best for their age as well as the best apparatus for exercise."
This shows a clear desire from The Ministry of Education of Rwanda to provide school sports with a platform to further develop the current sporting youth.
