From 27th to 30h August 2017, the ISF delegation (ISF President - Laurent Petrynka, Deputy President - Stelios Daskalakis, Vice President - Robson Aguiar, Secretary General - Jan Coolen, Sports Director - Norbert Kever) arrived in Budapest for the evaluation meeting regarding the 2020 Gymnasiade bid.
During the visit, the team has been briefed on the Hungarian bid with a presentation and had the chance to visit the proposed facilities.
Concept & Vision
As part of the bid for the 18th Summer Gymnasiade the city of Budapest proposes to combine the world of sport and the sphere of education flavoured by the special atmosphere of Hungary. The three dimensions are highlighted in the motto of the event: School-Sport-Spirit.
As part of the program, the city of Budapest proposes a pool of 12 sports: Beyond the “compulsory” sports (Athletics, Gymnastics – Artistic, Rhythmic, Aerobic, Swimming) it offers Combat Sports (Karate, Wrestling, Judo), and optionally Tennis, Chess, Archery and even Fencing. However, the candidate city keeps its bid open and flexible regarding new sports.
The Gymnasiade 2020 Budapest is planning to use 5 multifunctional sport centre, including “Tüske” Swimming Hall – which hosted successfully the ISF World Schools Swimming Championship Swimming in 2017 -, and 3 optional sport halls for additional sport and trainings.
Catering & Accommodation
The hotels are located close to city centre and the event venues. Every meal will take place at the accommodation during the Gymnasiade with flexible schedule.
Budapest is easily accessible from all parts of the world. The international airport of Budapest, Liszt Ferenc International Airport is located at the South-East of the city, within a 20-km distance from the downtown that is approximately 30 minutes by bus or by car. Most great traffic hubs are available from Budapest with a direct flight or by only one change.
Most of the venues are in 10-15 minutes, by bus from the accommodation. The training venues will be the same as the competition venues.
Safety & Security
HSSF will focus on a well-prepared security plan, which will be elaborated in cooperation with the authorities (police, civil militia, disaster management, ambulance, even the Hungarian Terror Prevention Center). Special security regulations will be implemented during the key events and all areas of the event.
Medical Care System
In Budapest, 33 public hospitals and 13 private hospitals operate within the healthcare system, completed by numerous specialist ambulances. The distance of these institutions from the competition sites are 10-20 minutes at most.
At the hotels, 0-24 medical presence will be ensured. On the event sites, the team responsible for medical services will operate medical room established in each location.
Communication, Media & Language Service
The candidate city will provide safe and high-speed internet not only for representatives of media but also for all participants in the area of the Gymnasiade events and in the hotels as well.
The TV, radio and online broadcast of Gymnasiade and its photo documentation shall completely satisfy the needs of the modern audience and of course the sponsors of the events.
Some well-prepared, multilingual young volunteers will accompany the delegations throughout the event and other multilingual young volunteers will be involved at Info Points and event locations as well.
