From 18th to 22h August 2017, the ISF evaluation team, consisting of President Laurent Petrynka, Deputy President Stelios Daskalakis, Continental President Africa Les Williams, Secretary General Jan Coolen, Sports Director Nobert Kever, and Treasurer Guy Fusenig conducted a field assessment in Taoyuan, Chinese Taipei - the 2nd candidate city for the 18th Gymnasiade in 2020.
The ISF delegation visited and assessed the main places of the bidding city, at the same time of the FISU – Summer Universiade in Taoyuan. During this evaluation, officials from Chinese Taipei, such as the Vice President, Ministry of Education, officials of the bid and of the city of Taoyuan met with the ISF delegation.
Concept & Vision
For the 18th Summer Gymnasiade bid (High-School Summer Games), the city of Taoyuan propose the concept of « Friendship, Diversity, Hospitality and Technology” with the slogan “For Youth, For Future”.
The city of Taoyuan propose a program of 14 sports: 5 compulsory sports of Athletics, Swimming and Gymnastics (Artistic, Rhythmic and Aerobics) ; additional sports : Tennis, Table tennis, Chess Archery, Badminton and Combat Sports such as Taekwondo, Karate, Wrestling, Judo. The final sport programme will need to be discussed with the ISF.
The bid candidate plans 14 sport venues including competition and training areas, divided in 4 clusters.
Catering & Accommodation
Three universities (Chang Gung University (CGU), University of Science and Technology, the National Sport University) located in a sport park has been designated to serve as the village for the Gymnasiade, including safe dormitories for the teams and catering.
All sports venues are within 30 minutes drive, some of which are within walking distances from the athletes’ village.
Safety & Security
The bid candidate will establish a central command centre, which includes disease control and prevention group, medical care system and coordination with other agencies. A special security regulations will be implemented during the key events and all areas of the event.
Medical Care System
A polyclinic will be set up in the village for the health care of the athletes.
Communication, Media & Language Service
Taoyuan is equipped with high-speed Internet in the whole city and venue in order to serve the communication of activities of event.
As for the 2 other Gymnasiade 2020 candidates (China – Jinjiang and Hungary – Budapest), Chinese Taipei – Taoyuan will make its final presentation during the ISF Executive Committee in Olbia (Italy) between the 13th and the 15th October 2017.
Currently the ISF delegation is evaluating the last Gymnasiade 2020 candidate in Budapest (Hungary) until the 29th August.
