Brussels, 8 March 2019 - To celebrate the International Women's Day, ISF and She Runs - Active Girls' Lead partnered with POLITICO Europe and held a Women Rule Networking Lunch, with ISF Secretary General / CEO Hrvoje Custonja as a guest, presenting the upcoming She Runs project.
She Runs - Active Girls' Lead is starting next week on Tuesday, Marc 12, with 500 girls from 35 countries and 5 continents coming to Paris for a 4-day event.
ISF Secretary General / CEO Hrvoje Custonja presented the Erasmus+ Sport programme supported event at the POLITICO Europe's Women Rule Networking Lunch in presence of VinylPlus general manager Ms Brigitte Dero, Head of the Sport Unit at European Commission Mr Yves Le Lostecque and Mr Lucian Mircescu, youth and sport attache of the Romanian EU Presidency 2019.
Women Rule Networking Lunch, organised by POLITICO Europe and moderated by political editor Ryan Heath and deputy policy news editor Marion Solletty, gathered influential women across various fields of politics, climate action, sport, education and more. Among the special guests were also Ms Anna-Kaisa Itkonen, the European Commission Spokesperson for Climate Action.
Mr Custonja highlighted the importance of international women's day and reminded the public that every individual and every organisation have the responsibility to strive for women's rights and to contribute to their fullest, towards women empowerment.
He added that the International School Sport Federation is proud to have a project aligned with such an important mission. Supported by the Erasmus + Sport Program, the She Runs project aims to promote health, empowerment and leadership for girls through sport and school. The participants will take part in sport, cultural, inspirational and entrepreneurial activities from the 12th to the 15th of March in Paris.
She Runs - Active Girls' Lead is about the important role that sport in a school environment can play for the health and empowerment of girls. Regarding global issues on health; sport is a proven contributor to dealing with obesity and cardiovascular issues as mentioned by Eurobarometer 2018. It plays a similar role in addressing gender equality, which continues to be a key issue in present society.
At the end Mr Custonja mentioned that the She Runs project happening two months before the European election will be our message, our way to strive for societies where women from the early age shall be active, empowered and taking the lead.
We await you in Paris on March 13th for this event's flagship activity from 11h00 to 17h00 to join 2500 international and local girls running together, celebrating women empowerment in sport.
