Fifteen boys’ and nine girls’ teams gathered in Rishon LeZion, Israel, for a 6-day World School Championship (WSC) in futsal, hosted by Israeli School Sport Association in co-operation with the National Physical Education Supervision of Ministry of Education, Israel Football Association and the Municipality of Rishon LeZion.
WSC futsal was first introduced in 2007 and hosted by Brazil. It took five years to hold another tournament, organised in 2012 by Turkey. Besides Brazil and Turkey, the two other hosts were Italy (2014) and Croatia (2016).
Israel welcomed the 5th edition of ISF WSC Futsal
Young futsal players from 14 countries, and 3 continents, aged 16-18 (year of birth 2000-2002), proved sport is not solely about competing, but also meeting, educating and supporting each other. Besides competing, the WSC also held a cultural day and Intercultural Festival where athletes were getting to know each other and learning about the local and other participants’ culture.
Brazil was the leading team from day 1 and finished the tournament winning in both divisions, boys and girls.
In boys’ category, Croatia took 2nd and Israel 1 won the bronze. The girls from Turkey and France stood on the podium next to the winning team from Brazil.
The Kinder+Sport Joy of Moving Trophy for Fair Play went to team Chinese Taipei.
The venues hosting the event were Beit Maccabi, Nahalat 360 and Revivim sports halls. All matches from Beit Maccabi were also broadcasted, and archived, to ISF WSC Futsal Facebook page.
The flag hangover was exchanged between Israel and France, the country which will host the next futsal World School Championship in 2020.
