On 31 July the Fujian 2021 Youth Taekwondo Tournament marked the end of the successful series of test events for the 18th ISF Gymnasiade Jinjiang 2020 covering each of the 18 sports in its sport programme.
These 18th ISF Gymnasiade Jinjiang 2020 test events constitute the largest series of sports events ever hosted by Jinjiang, which included 6 national events, 8 provincial events, 2 Quanzhou municipal events and 2 Jinjiang municipal events. A total of 4,322 athletes and 1,199 technical officials from all over the country participated in these test events.
"The test events for the 18 sports showed positive results, which were up to our expectations", said Chen Maohe, Deputy Director General of the Competition, and Information Department under the Executive Committee General Office of the18th Gymnasiade. Test events were rehearsals of the Gymnasiade competitions, and all test events were organised according to the standards of the Gymnasiade. These events have mainly tested the competition management teams, facilities and equipment, interconnection, contingency plans, and acting plans in an all-around way, which will lay a solid foundation for the smooth running of the Gymnasiade when it takes place in 2022.
With the end of these test events, the next steps for the Executive Committee General Office of the 18th Gymnasiade will focus on any issues found during the test events working on necessary improvements and solutions. Meanwhile, the emergency response plans in each field will also be improved, making every effort to further solidify the foundation created for the smooth running of the Gymnasiade.
Logistics Support of Test Events delivered successfully
During this test event period, the General Office made advanced plans and arrangements in strict accordance with the standards of Gymnasiade setting up five workstations for the reception at the arrival & departure of delegations, and 16 workstations in hotels, all of which were equipped with full-time staff. Logistical services were provided in a meticulous and practical manner to support the entire process of all 18 test events such as arrival and departure, accommodation, transportation, and food safety.
In addition, 12 contact groups with English teachers as group leaders and volunteers as coordinating members were put together to offer event information and services like reception, inquiries, and traffic guidance for 171 delegations. Zhou regarded the test events as the “rehearsal” before the official event. At the next stage, experiences will be summarised, and the work plans will be refined, so as to reinforce the solid foundations in place for the logistical support of the Gymnasiade.
Volunteers: Crucial for Event Success
A total of 2,649 volunteers made up the backbone of the 18 test events of ISF Jinjiang 2020 Gymnasiade, bringing with them high morale and great levels of enthusiasm. They each demonstrated the Gymnasiade value of “Better us, Better Future” with their dedication to their duties.
The volunteers were recruited from 16 individual schools and volunteer organisations either in Jinjiang or Quanzhou, accumulating over 100,000 hours of service, said Wang Sisi, who is in charge of volunteering work of the 18th Gymnasiade Executive Committee General Office. “Although they were only test events, we delivered them in line with the standards of the Gymnasiade”, said Wang Sisi.
Volunteer management teams of all venues have been improved from the test events, with increased clarification of tasks and responsibilities. The next steps will see further adjustments to the allocation of volunteers and will regulate the management on the basis of experience gained from the test events. Moreover, volunteer training will also be enhanced, and will help present to the world a better Gymnasiade with highly able volunteers.
