Its getting closer….. 34 days left before the beginning of the Ski World School Championship that will be held in L’Aquila.
On the 23rd of February at 5pm the opening ceremony of the WSC of Ski 2016 will take place in Piazza Duomo, the main square of L’Aquila. Local and regional representative as well as some students from the local schools will meet to turn on the Tripode, a symbol that reminds of the olympic torch. The burning torch will then hit the main squares of Abruzzo’s region symbolising the union and contribution of the whole region for the organisation of the event.
As part of the ISF process to include youngsters at every stage of the organisation the organisers in collaboration with some high schools of the region of Abruzzo have held a contest to draw the logo and slogan for the event. The winners Michele Sablone from the arts high school Misticoni-Bellisario of Pescara draw the logo of the WSC and Daria Iarlori from the middle school Dante Alighieri of L’Aquila won with the slogan (I tuoi sci, le nostre ali) (Your skis, our wings).
The press conference held in the state capital of Abruzzo’s region have attracted a big media attention to proof the impact of the WSC at local and national level. As the organising manager of the event Mr Antonello Passacantando have proudly said:
“A dream comes true, we are extremely proud to organise this World School Championship, is the southeast a Ski WSC have ever been in ISF History and 18 Nations coming from all over the world have joined the competition.All the teachers have helped on a voluntary basis and this makes us even more proud especially if we look at the budget, we appreciate even more their effort. Also the municipalities have played a big role in the organisation, is in the interest of everyone that this event proves to be successful”
This is the 6th time that a WSC take place in Italy, the previous editions were in 1977 and 1983 in Cortina, 1995 in Tarvisio, 2010 in Trentino, and 2012 in Valle D’Aosta. This WSC will officially open the season of the WSC that will also set another record as the 2016, will be the year with most competitions ever disputed in the history of ISF with 10 WSC and the Gymnasiade.
