In 2 weeks, the second European Week of Sport (EWoS) will start in the whole continent, following the first successful edition in 2015. 2016 EWoS will be launched on 10th September 2016 and run until the 16th September 2016, drawing over 1 million participants around Europe.
EWoS is an annual event initiated by the European Union in order to inspire the European community to practice sport more often and more creative. With the call for action #BeActive, the second EWoS wants to focus on grassroots initiatives by inspire each European to be active on regular basis. National and regional were invited to contribute to themes and construct activities that appealing to all audiences.
ISF is one of official partners of EWoS 2016. ISF commits to work on a long-term perspective with the National School Sport bodies of ISF European Members in order to increase the number of young people active in schools through school sport. 7 ISF members including France, Hungary, Latvia, Slovenia, Estonia, Sweden and Greece will organize different attractive sport activities in their countries.

One of these activities is European School Sport Day (ESSD), inspired by Hungarian School Sport Day, an event organised by the Hungarian School Sport Federation for 10 years. ESSD aims at promoting physical activities for children, young people, schools and organisations. ESSD events will be held in 15-20 European countries in 2016, making the initiative the largest event of the European Week of Sport. This year, the focus day of ESSD will be on the 30th of September, however related events will be organised during the whole period of the European Week of Sport (10 September – 02 October). The following countries have already confirmed their willingness to join ESSD: Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland, Italy, Scotland, Turkey, Bulgaria, Malta, Spain, Greece, Lithuania, Serbia. Other organisations are welcome to join.
