Under Germany's Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the 6th edition of the European Week of Sport will open in Frankfurt, Germany, with the Opening Ceremony taking place on 23 September 2020. The official opening event will be exclusively online.
ISF President Laurent Petrynka will participate in the online opening with a video message on the importance of sport and physical education for youth and schools.
The European Week of Sport is held every year between 23-30 September to encourage Europeans to #BeActive and help millions across the World to build better, healthier and more active lifestyle.
Every year, also during the European Week of Sport, , the European School Sport Day is taking place. This year the European schools will celebrate the importance of physical education and school sport on 25 September 2020.
Last year, within the framework of the 2019 European Week of Sport, ISF organised the 'She Runs, Active Girls' Lead' post event conference which took place in Brussels on the 27 September 2019. The conference was titled “Toward improving young women's health and leadership through sport and education”.
Current COVID-19 pandemic, has made European Week of Sport more necessary than ever before. Earlier this year European Commission launched the #BeActiveAtHome campaign. ISF contributed to it with its own ISF Stay Active campaign.
