ISF Statement on the War in Ukraine

ISF Statement on the War in Ukraine

 

Condemning the war against Ukraine and its consequences on the Ukrainian population and particularly the youth of Ukraine, the ISF Executive Committee during its Extraordinary meeting held on 1st of March 2022, according to the point 1.6.6. of the Articles of Association of the ISF,

decided to:

  1. Suspend the membership rights of the Russian Federation and Belarus until further monitoring of the situation, leading to following consequences:
  1. Russian Federation and Belarus are not allowed to participate in any ISF events until further notice.
  2. Withdrawal of the hosting rights for the 20th ISF Gymnasiade 2024, previously awarded to the Russian Federation.
  3. Russian Federation and Belarus cannot attend, participate, or vote in the ISF General Assembly and Executive Committee meetings.

 

Taking into consideration that the war in Ukraine goes against all goals and aims of ISF which convey the values of peace, friendship, solidarity, and the promotion of education through sport for empowering school students in becoming tomorrow's leaders based on the sport and Olympic values of friendship, fair-play, tolerance and understanding,

 

ISF is calling for:

  1. the immediate ceasing of the war and invasion of Ukraine and building peace and dialogue.
  2. its members to demonstrate solidarity with the Ukrainian colleagues, teachers and students and the entire population; and
  3. its members to be aligned with the decisions of the IOC.

 

The executive committee has shown its solidarity and support for the Ukrainian population and will continue to monitor the situation with its member the Ukrainian Federation of School Sport.
