As the historically first ISF Combat Games took place in Agra, India from 7th to 14th of July, the International School Sport Federation is getting more connected to the World Federations of combat sports. This year, 300 young athletes competed in the disciplines of Taekwondo, Wrestling, Judo and Karate.
In this context, we are glad to announce that International Boxing Association (AIBA) joined the ISF movement in order to develop the great values that boxing has to offer in term of education through sport for the youth.
Indeed a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed by ISF President Laurent Petrynka and AIBA President Dr. Wu Ching-Kuo. The signature took place in the 19th of August in Taipei, in occasion of the official visit of the Presidents at the 2017 Summer Universiade, just few days before the 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships held in Hamburg, Germany, from 25th August to 2nd September.

This significant agreement will lead to the further development of boxing in a global school sport system. The discipline of Boxing will not be only included in the Gymnasiade (High School Summer Games), but also in ISF Combat Games. There will be two categories – U15 (13 – 14 years old athletes) and U17 (15 – 16 years old athletes). The implementation of this cooperation will start during the 2018 Gymnasiade held form 2nd to 9th of May in Morocco.
In cooperation between AIBA and ISF, specific technical rules and competition format will be developed. The cooperation will also lead to harmonisation of calendars, facilitation of the communication between Boxing National Federations and ISF members in order to bring as many countries as possible to future ISF events.

There will also be a possibility to use ISF events as examinations for young AIBA International Referees (during 1-star events). The cooperation will also play an important role in the development – the organisations will share specific development programmes concerning boxing and school sport, organised by AIBA or the School Sport Foundation.
