Dear Authorities, Dear representatives of the Ministry of Education, Dear Representatives of the City of Jinjiang, Dear Representatives of the Fujian Province, Dear School Sport Friends,
It is a pleasure and privilege to be with you here today for this very symbolic moment as the ISF, together with all of you engages in a new journey towards the biggest ISF Gymnasiade in its history. The strength and ambition of China to host the ISF Gymnasiade 2020 in the city of Jinjiang is contributing to the worldwide development of school sport, getting young generations to become more active and acquire leadership skills.
Being here for this Ceremony reminds me of all the faces full of happiness of the members of the Jinjiang delegation after the victory announcement was made. It seems like only yesterday. Precious moments like these are why we organise events of this type, for the youth of the world, the leaders of the future. This event, just like the tree my wife and I planted in Jinjiang during our first visit will make us all grow together and remind us of an unforgettable lifetime experience.
The ISF aims to achieve more educational, accessible, and innovative events and this Gymnasiade is clear evidence of this policy. These should not only be words or concepts as nowadays more than ever; youth want concrete actions. It is our responsibility to make this happen, and to achieve this within the context of the Olympic spirit and values as well as the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations - Agenda 2030.
Lastly, let me underline that since the very beginning, the Local Organising Committee has put a huge amount of effort in order to give us the opportunity to gather over 100 countries and more than 5000 participants for a wonderful and unique moment in ISF history. We feel honoured to be welcomed in the city of Jinjiang that has successfully developed the high-level combination of entrepreneurship and education.
Dear Friends, we will see you all in exactly one year, in October 2020 in Jinjiang to celebrate active young generations globally represented through school sport.
