Last October Olbia (Italy) became a harbour of school sport, as the ISF Seminar 2017 took place in this Italian city from 10th to 16th of October. Several events occurred during this convention – ISF Technical Commissions seminar, ISF event organisers 2018-2019 meeting, the ISF Executive Committee and as the peak of the event, the city of Jinjiang (China) has been elected to host the Gymnasiade 2020 – Schools Summer Games. Organised in cooperation with MIUR, the ISF Technical Commissions seminar gathered 150 sport experts involved in the different Technical Commissions to discuss and shape the future of the ISF sport events format.


For the first time, representatives of International Sports Federations, such as Mr Roberto Perna - Education Programmes Group Leader FIFA, Mrs Ilona Hapkova - Chairwoman Handball School Working Group IHF, Kosta Iliev - NF & Sport Senior Manager FIBA, Mr Peter Gerdol - Continental Cup Coordinator FIS, Mr Aron Less - Chairperson Foot Orienteering IOF, Mr Steve Butcher - Technical Coordinator FIG joined the event to provide important insight to the issues matters. Their presence is a result of the previous cooperation and relations reinforcement, which is one of the goals of ISF so far as it believes partnership with the main International Sport Federations is an important step in the development of the ISF Vision 2030 for promoting sports development among young people from schools and enhancing the sport programme of ISF events.

During the seminar, guest speakers delivered presentations in several topics part of the ISF strategy. Mr Jose Manuel Dominguez Gonzalez - Olympic Channel, Ms Agata Dziarnowska - European Commission, Mr Thomas Zandonai – Anti Doping Expert from the University of Grenada (Spain), Ms Micol Purrotti, AS Roma Football Club Nutritionist, Mr Jacques Stas – General Manager Belgium Basketball team and Education through sport expert, Mr Robin Kent & Mr Gary Cohen – Rsportz company add value to the different discussions and issues ongoing within the ISF.


On the 13th of October, ISF Executive Committee gathered the elected members of ISF to discuss the ISF policy and projects development and to evaluate the past six months activities and events in 2017. This meeting was crucial for the 2018 ISF season starting on February. One of the main outcomes of this meeting has been the election of the host countries of the World Schools Championships 2020 and the presentation of the 1st youth led project of the ISF Youth Council which will start to be implemented in 2018.

On October 15th, the summit of the ISF seminar 2017 was the Gymnasiade 2020 – School Summer Games awarding Ceremony during which the city of Jinjiang (China) has been elected to host the event in a bit more than 4 years. The city of Taoyuan (Chinese Taipei) and Budapest (Hungary) were finalists’ cities of this 2 years bidding procedure.
