Last year, Israel welcomed delegations to compete in the ISF WSC Cross-Country 2014. Next year, they will once again welcome delegations from around the world, yet this time the athletes arriving will be competing in table tennis. The ISF WSC Table Tennis 2016 will take place during the first week of April, in Eilat, which is located in the south of Israel near Jordan. In the middle of July, probably when everybody else was planning how to spend their summer, the president of the technical commission of table tennis, Pieter Schippers, went to Israel for a preliminary visit. During the days in Eilat, Mr. Schippers was presented to both the accommodation facilities as well as the competition venues.
At the day of arrival, the Israeli organisers, The National Physical Education Supervision Ministry of Education, had planned a hotel tour of Club Hotel Resort, which will accommodate the athletes during the championship. With 700 rooms and a property size of around 40,000 m2, no chance that delegations will feel wedged and lack space in any way. Additionally, the hotel offers three dining rooms, a water park with seven swimming pools, and sport facilities including a football field and a gym.
The following day, a site tour was planned to the competition venues and the prospective sites for the opening and closing ceremony as well as the nation’s gathering. During any WSC, it is also custom that a day is reserved for a cultural day. The Israeli organisers have already several sites in mind that potentially could act as the perfect location for this day, for instance Masada, Jerusalem or Eilat. However, which of these will be chosen remains a question until the final programme is in place. We can only eagerly await this!
