Côte d'Ivoire, December 11 2018 - The Ivorian Office of School and University Sports (OISSU), in partnership with all Education and Training Ministries and UNICEF, officially launched the school and university sports season 2018-2019 by organising a cross country race and inviting delegations from Morocco, Senegal, Benin and France to join the event.
The opening was held under the high patronage of the President of the Republic Mr Alassane Ouattara and the Prime Minister Mr Daniel Kablan Duncan under the chairmanship of the Minister of Sports Cross Schools.
On behalf of the ISF president, ISF continental president of Africa Mr Youssef Belqasmi and ISF EC Member and General Director of OISSU Mr Souleymane Kone Mamadou welcomed the students, teachers and the volunteers and thank the organisers for hosting a great event and contibuting to the school sport development in Africa.

Mr Danho Paulin, who represented the Prime Minister and also the sponsor of the OISSU, congratulated the officials for the work they have done: "We congratulate the officials of the OISSU who understood the government's vision. The enthusiasm of the youth shows us that the OISSU is strengthening its development and returning to its former glory. We have to make sure that the strategy is sustainable.

Students participating at the cross country race were also welcomed by the president of the African Federation of School and University Sports (FASU) Mr Ben Kassmir Youssef who stated. "Today I am delighted to take part in this large-scale event which is attended by the students from Côte d'Ivoire, and for the first time by the youth from Morocco, Senegal, Benin and France. It's very important for us to be here today."
The cross country race took place on December 11, 2018 in Abidjan, Treichville at the Palais des Sports. The students - pupils currently enrolled in the primary education and the students from the secondary schools and the Universities - were divided into three different age categories (10-13, 14-18, 19+). Students from the National Institute of Youth and Sports (INJS) and Morocco dominated the competition in all categories.
The launch of the 2018-2019 season celebrates the success of the OISSU and its work which follows the promise made by the Head of State in his speech "Living Together":
"We will revitalize the Ivorian Office of School and University Sports (OISSU) so that it can again provide youth with regular sports competitions for schools and colleges from all regions"
The OISSU would like to develop School Sport further, not only at a national and African level, but also by increasing the participating at the international events.
The competitions calendar for the OISSU 2018-2019 season has been determined and you can read it below:
• December 10 to 23, 2018: the organization of School and University Games of Ivory Coast 2018 in Yamoussoukro
• January 7 to February 13, 2019: Organization of the intra-departmental phase of school sports competitions
• March 20 to April 10, 2019: Organization of the inter-departmental phase of Copa Coca-Cola
• April 24 to April 10, 2019: Organization of the inter-departmental phase in the 8 sports development zones
• 24 April to 22 May: Organization of the Interregional Phase of Copa Coca-Cola and the Organization of Area Finals
• May 31 - June 09, 2019: Organization of the final phase of the Copa Coca-Cola Côte d'Ivoire in Daloa
• July 2019: Organization of school and university games of Ivory Coast in Yamoussoukro
