The role of School Sport and the Union Sport Scolaire Polynesien (USSP), French Polynesia, is to make sure youth have access to quality physical education.
Its mission is also to provide the youngsters with the opportunity to thrive, both physically and socially, by supporting them to engage in various sport and educational activities proposed by the USSP.
USSP's, and its director's Mr Michael Retali, strategy to further develop school sport is built around three main objectives:
First, providing access to sport events, while supporting equality, and focusing on the masses (engaging as many youngsters as possible). Also, giving youth a chance to develop their potential, especially to girls, while advocating solidarity and mutual help.
Second, USSP aims to improve and sustain the health of students through regular physical activity while highlighting the fun aspect of it.
And last but not least, teaching youth about taking the responsibility for their lives, their school and sport, and fight against discrimination.
In 2017, French Polynesia and USSP gathered the global youth for the World Schools Championships in beach volleyball, while also hosting the 2017 ISF Executive Committee meeting.
