Rowing is one of the oldest sports on the Olympic programme, having been on the Olympic Programme since the first modern Games in 1896, and carries a long-standing tradition within the Olympic Movement. Rowing offers significant benefits for young people, supporting physical fitness, endurance, teamwork, and mental resilience. Its strong emphasis on discipline, coordination, and collective effort makes it particularly well-suited to school sport environments.

Within the framework of this agreement, ISF and World Rowing will collaborate to promote rowing within school systems worldwide, with a particular focus on the development of international school rowing competitions, educational initiatives, PE teacher and coach training. The cooperation will also explore the creation of tailored educational resources to support the integration of rowing into physical education programmes.

This partnership forms part of ISF’s broader strategy to work closely with International Federations to enrich the global school sport landscape and provide more diverse and meaningful opportunities for young people through sport. By combining World Rowing’s technical expertise with ISF’s global school sport network, both organisations aim to expand access to rowing for students worldwide, while reinforcing the educational dimension of sport.
