ISF signs MoU with The International Ski and Snowboard Federation

The International School Sport Federation (ISF) has teamed up with the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS), the global governing body for skiing and snowboarding, to support the promotion of snow sports in education.

Both parties have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to signify a mutually beneficial partnership that will run indefinitely.

Such a collaboration will see FIS provide expertise across any and all relevant fields. This includes, but is not limited to, ISF events delivered on FIS-approved courses, technical delegates officiating at ISF events, and directives in timing and data management of said events.

Each organisation has also pledged to strengthen cooperation and partnerships between the two as well as their respective members.

The primary focus is to ultimately promote sport, including skiing and snowboarding, in education at both national and international levels to appeal to school-age enthusiasts.

“Our mission is to create meaningful opportunities for young people, where they can compete, discover new sports, and grow in a safe educational environment,” explained ISF President Željko Tanasković, “Together with FIS, we are opening a new chapter for winter sports, and I am confident this partnership will lead to a long and fruitful collaboration that will inspire the next generation of athletes.”

Working in tandem to bring skiing and snowboarding to the next generation of hopefuls is vital for the future of snow sports.

For newly appointed CEO at FIS, Urs Lehmann, this collaboration will also allow for increased participation among young girls, something everyone involved is dedicated to improving.

“We are committed to addressing the well-documented drop-off in sports engagement among teenage girls, while also championing sustainability, fair play, and integrity through sport,” he said,“This partnership reflects our shared values and our ambition to inspire the next generation of ski and snowboard enthusiasts.”

Within the framework of this MoU, both federations will work closely together with the ambition to launch an international school snow sports championship by 2027 and, in the near future, to jointly launch the ISF Winter Gymnasiade.
