ISF Winter Gymnasiade Visit October 2022

FIRST EDITION OF THE ISF WINTER GYMNASIADE JUST FOUR MONTHS AWAY!

An ISF Delegation visited the city of Erzurum in Türkiye that will welcome international school athletes from the 11-19 February 2023, for the 1st ever ISF Winter Gymnasiade.

The visiting ISF Delegation represented by ISF Sports Director Josip Kosutic, ISF educational and institutional director Kole Gjeloshaj, ISF Event Manager Uros Savic and Paavo Nael, Vice-chair of the ISF Winter Sports Commission arrived in Erzurum in Turkiye on Monday 10 October, for an inspection visit of the host city of the first edition of ISF Winter Gymnasiade Erzurum 2023.

The Turkish School Sport Federation together with the ISF is getting ready to welcome around 1000 school athletes from over 35 countries worldwide. Students will be competing in eight sports, five snow sports and three ice sports. With preparations fully underway, the event venues are ready to host the sports of alpine skiing, ski cross country, snowboarding, biathlon, ski orienteering, ice skating, ice hockey and curling.

The central hub of the event will be located at the ski centre in Erzurum which will contain the functional areas of the dining hall, conference rooms, equipment storages, market, and dormitory.  
Athletes will be accommodated in the hotel at the altitude of 2630m. The Ski Centre will be transformed into the athlete’s sports village with all planned and prepared activities being held in this location

The Local Organising Committee preparing all organisational needs for every detail.

Organising Committee is ensuring the correct and timely preparation of all venues and safety measures. During the visit a presentation from the local organising team was presented by Mr. Omur Karakullukcu, president of the Turkish School Sport Federation and General Coordinator of the event. Assistant coordinator Mr. Fatih Kiyici, together with the directors of each sport continued by presenting all the plans, preparations being implemented, to the ISF delegation.

Later, the highest authorities of City of Erzurum welcomed the ISF Delegation to the city hall, and further confirming their dedication and involvement in the smooth running and hosting of this 1st ever ISF Winter Gymnasiade.


The city of Erzurum is surrounded by mountains and is a famous ski destination. Not only famous for its ski centre; Erzurum is home to around 80.000 students. The all-round potential of this location and event will be revealed in just four months with the event fast approaching.

This addition of the Winter Gymnasiade to the ISF calendar will bring with it an all-new crowd of school sport students, building on the winter sports programme that ISF has had in its framework since its creation back in 1972.
