ISF and FIBA Launch First Basketball Education Programme in Bulgaria

May 15, Sofia, BulgariaThe FIBA–ISF Start Academy Coaching Program was successfully delivered on 24–25 April 2026 in Sofia, Bulgaria, through the collaboration between ISF, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), and the Bulgarian Association School Sports (BASS). A total of 9 Physical Education teachers and sport educators participated in the programme, designed to strengthen grassroots basketball education within the school sport community.

This FIBA Start Coaching Program was intentionally designed as a small-scale, high-quality educational initiative, creating a highly interactive learning environment with strong practical engagement and individual feedback opportunities for participants.

Through the programme, participants gained practical knowledge on how to make basketball learning fun, safe, and engaging for young students, while developing essential coaching and teaching skills adapted to the school environment. The initiative reflects the shared commitment of ISF, FIBA, and BASS to empower PE teachers through education and capacity building, while promoting the long-term development of basketball within schools and local communities.

Through programmes such as this, teachers are equipped with new competencies and methodologies that can have a direct and lasting impact on students and school sport participation.

Following the successful edition in Sofia, further development of ISF Academy x International Federation educational programmes is expected around the world, reinforcing cooperation between the sport and education sectors internationally.

For local educational organisations, schools, PE teachers, and International Federations interested in developing similar cooperation initiatives, the ISF Academy team remains available to provide further information and explore future collaboration opportunities.
