World Teacher Games: A New Global Platform for PE Teachers Under the ISF Umbrella

May 12, Toulon, France – The first edition of the World Teacher Games (WTG) successfully concluded last week in the Toulon Provence Méditerranée Metropolis, France. A team of ISF experts, led by International School Sport Federation (ISF) Executive Director Hasnae El Ayoubi, was on site to support the operation of the event organised under the umbrella of the ISF.

The event welcomed around 400 physical education (PE) teachers from 25 delegations, creating a dynamic new platform for international exchange, professional development, and the celebration of the essential role of PE in education.

Throughout the week, PE teachers took part in a diverse and engaging programme that combined sport competitions, educational workshops, and cultural activities. Teachers competed in events such as Beach Rugby, AirBadminton, Volleyball, Trail Running, and Open Water Relay Swimming. Alongside the competitions, they participated in interactive workshops, an international education conference, and a vibrant intercultural dinner, aimed at sharing innovative teaching methods, discovering new tools, and building a sense of global community among PE professionals.

The World Teacher Games aims to highlight the critical impact of physical education teachers on the health and development of young people. As the primary facilitators of school-based sport, PE teachers are often the first to introduce children to movement, teamwork, and fair play. They lay the foundation for physical literacy and play an essential role in identifying and nurturing talent, while simultaneously promoting lifelong values such as perseverance, respect, and resilience.

As an official ISF initiative, WTG reflects the federation’s long-standing commitment to evaluating, supporting, and empowering PE teachers worldwide. In major ISF events such as the Gymnasiades and World School Championships, ISF always works closely with International Federations and local organising committees to deliver workshops for both accompanying coaches and local PE teachers. These include sport-specific training, anti-doping education, injury prevention, and safeguarding, aligning with global standards for teacher development.

The success of this inaugural edition has set a strong precedent. ISF will continue to develop the World Teacher Games as a recurring event, serving as a hub for cross-border collaboration, innovation, and recognition for physical educators. This initiative further strengthens ISF’s mission of empowering youth through sport and education—by investing in those who guide and inspire them every day.
