ISF President Visit Mexico and Meet with National Sports Authorities
Sep. 21, Mexico City, Mexico – Invited by ISF Member Federation in Mexico, Mexican Federation of School Sports (FEMEDEES), ISF President Željko Tanasković visited Mexico from 17 September 2026 for a series of high-level meetings with representatives of the Mexican sports community and national sports authorities, strengthening dialogue around school sport, fair play and future cooperation.
On 17 September, accompanied by FEMEDEES President Jose Martin Sanchez Tenorio, ISF President Tanasković met with Mtro. Francisco Cabezas Gutiérrez, President of the Mexican Sports Confederation (CODEME).
During the meeting, President Tanasković received recognition as an Ambassador of Fair Play in the Americas, together with a copy of the History of Sport in Mexico and a commemorative medal marking the anniversary of the Mexican Sports Confederation, which brings together Mexico’s national sports federations.
The meeting provided an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the Mexican sports community and the international school sport community, while highlighting the shared importance of fair play, school sport and international cooperation.
On 18 September, President Tanasković was welcomed by Rommel Pacheco, Mexico’s Minister of Sport, together with senior officials from the country’s national sports authorities and FEMEDEES President.
Discussions focused on potential future events, initiatives and new areas of cooperation that could contribute to the development of sport both nationally and internationally. The exchange also provided an opportunity to discuss Mexico’s continued engagement with ISF and opportunities to further develop its role within the international school sport movement.
Mexico, through its ISF Member organisation, has been actively participating in ISF events, while continued exchanges between ISF and Mexico’s sports authorities demonstrate the country’s interest in the development of school sport. Discussions around future events have also included opportunities for Mexico to further engage as a host of ISF events, opening the way for continued cooperation in the years ahead.
This visit reinforced the importance of strong relationships between ISF and national sports organisations and authorities in creating new opportunities for young people through sport and education.
